Renfe / Arnold 252 Series

The RENFE 252 locomotives form a series of 75 machines that entered service in 1991. These machines are part of the SIemens EuroSprinter family, the first 15 units of the series being built in Germany by Siemens and the rest in Spain by CAF and MACOSA. The first 15 units were built for international gauge, and the remaining 60 for Renfe gauge. Some units are single-voltage, others are dual-voltage, and finally some units have been adapted to be triple-voltage and to be able to run under 1,500 V catenary on services between the port of Barcelona and Perpignan. Their maximum speed is 220 km/h, although in tests they reached 300 km/h on the Madrid-Seville line. The first commercial services began in 1992 towing the Talgo 200 Madrid-Malaga, since then they have towed all types of passenger trains throughout the Spanish electrified network. RENFE, electric locomotive series 252 048-4, decoration "Arco", ep. V

The ARCO decoration applied on these locomotives served to identify the passenger service created by RENFE for this type of trains between 2001 and 2012 with radial connections, such as Port Bou - Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante and Murcia, or La Coruña-Vigo to Irún-Bilbao, where series 252 locomotives decorated like our model HN2450 were in charge of traction.

HN2451/HN2451D

RENFE, electric locomotive 252, yellow/grey decoration, ep. V

The yellow/black decoration was the most common of those applied to the 252 series locomotives, sharing the same colour scheme with other series of RENFE locomotives. Our reference HN2451 shows this classic decoration with which these locomotives ran towing passenger trains all over the network.

HN2452/HN2452D

RENFE, electric locomotive 252, decoration "Alvia Picasso", ep. VI

With the commissioning of new high-speed lines, it was decided to create a new commercial service called ALVIA, aimed at providing combined services between standard gauge and high-speed routes, decorating some series 252 locomotives with this new paint scheme that identified passenger trains consisting mainly of series 7 Talgo trainsets, such as reference HN2452.
